On Given to the Wild, South London’s The Maccabees scale back on the frenzied guitars of their early releases and turn out an electro-rock record produced by DFA’s Tim Goldsworthy. It’s a darker collection with countless layers of reverbed guitars, synths and horns. “Go” begins with a subtle drum-machine beat and synth arpeggios, and the verses start small before exploding into Arcade Fire-level bombast.
