Heavy Dudes Covering Townes Van Zandt

It isn’t really shocking that guys like Scotty Kelly and Steve Von Till (most famously of Neurosis) and Wino (God of all things doom metal) would be big enough fans of the late Townes Van Zandt that they’d record an entire album of his songs. What might be surprising to folks who aren’t familiar or interested in the other work of the men involved is just how damn good Songs of Townes Van Zandt truly is. Most of the songs sound like a collaboration between Mark Langden (Von Till and Kelly) and Roky Erickson (Wino), and end up being one of the best interpretations of Van Zandt’s work I’ve ever heard.
