PORTLAND’S BLUE GIANT AND TORONTO’S RURAL ALBERTA ADVANTAGE

ARE eMUSIC SELECTS ARTISTS

eMusic A&R Program Promotes Unsigned, Underexposed New Artists

NEW YORK, Nov. 11, 2008 -- eMusic the world’s largest retailer of independent music and world’s second largest digital music service after iTunes, today announced its latest eMusic Selects artists: Blue Giant, a Portland alt-country super-group featuring members of Viva Voce and The Decemberists, and The Rural Alberta Advantage, a Toronto-based indie rock trio.

Each month, eMusic’s staff handpicks up to two deserving artists for high-profile visibility to eMusic’s 400,000 subscribers. Blue Giant’s Target Heart and The RAA’s Hometowns will be featured prominently on eMusic’s homepage and will also receive in-depth editorial coverage on the eMusic Selects page and on the site’s blog, www.17dots.com. Subscribers can access a free song download from each act as well. All eMusic Selects artists agree to provide their often previously unreleased music exclusively to eMusic in the digital format for 60 days.

Blue Giant is a No Depression-style country-rock outfit with a serious indie pedigree. Their lineup includes Kevin and Anita Robinson, the husband-and-wife duo behind Viva Voce, on drums and guitar/vocals; Chris Funk (guitarist for The Decemberists) manning the pedal steel; Sam Coomes of Quasi on organ; and guest vocals from Sleater-Kinney's Corin Tucker. Blue Giant’s debut EP, Target Heart, bears the long, clean lines of classic country-rock, purposeful timelessness and economical songwriting. The Rural Alberta Advantage’s spectacular debut is Hometowns. The band features Nils Edenloff on vocals and guitar, and the rhythm section of Amy Cole and Paul Banwatt. Immediately poppy, Hometowns showcases Edenloff’s earnest vocals and songs about love – not teenage love, sappy love letters or rapid infatuation but the very best kind of love: earnest and sincere, and honest in its limitations.
