2006 PITCHFORK MUSIC FESTIVAL SAMPLER IS
eMUSIC'S MOST DOWNLOADED RELEASE OF THE YEAR TO DATE

ARTISTS ON SAMPLER SEE 28% INCREASE IN PAID eMUSIC DOWNLOADS

No. 1 Site For Independent Music Sponsors Pitchfork Music Festival July 29 & 30

NEW YORK, July 18, 2006 -- One of the most talked-about summer music festivals of the year is the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago, July 29-30. Co-sponsor eMusic (www.emusic.com), the world's largest retailer of independent music and the world's second-largest digital music retailer after iTunes, recently began offering a Pitchfork Music Festival Sampler as an exclusive free download. Featuring 24 tracks from various artists performing at the event, the sampler, an eclectic mix of the best in indie rock, hip-hop, electronic music and jazz, has been available to both eMusic subscribers and non-subscribers since June 16. The result: the Pitchfork sampler is now the most downloaded album of the year on eMusic, and artists appearing on the sampler have received an average 28% increase in paid downloads on eMusic since the sampler debuted.

“The most exciting, innovative music has historically been created by independent artists,” said David Pakman, President and CEO of eMusic. “Our Pitchfork Festival sampler is the perfect way to expose our subscribers to some of the most brilliant and under-exposed artists on the planet and in turn, introduce new eMusic visitors to our vast catalogue of incredible independent music. Most importantly, we’re helping the artists on the sampler increase their overall sales.”

From the latest blog-buzz bands to indie rock essentials, the eMusic 2006 Pitchfork Music Festival Sampler includes a whopping 108 minutes of free music from artists such as Tapes 'n Tapes, Art Brut, Mr. Lif, Mission of Burma, Matmos, Devendra Banhart, The Walkmen, Destroyer, and unreleased advance tracks from Yo La Tengo and the Mountain Goats.
