The three ragas performed here are masterpieces. The classical form is followed but with an inventiveness that is inspiring and often surprising. This is music that speaks directly and one need know nothing about the very rich Indian classical tradition. The tabla playing is wonderful and the whole experience is visceral emotionally.
Like most people I guess, I have had little or no exposure to Indian music but I find this record more fascinating with each listen. The music works on a superficial level: as background music but is even more satisfying with deeper listening. Turn off all the lights, put this record on and just let it wash through you.
