This music is so evil that it hurts, even played at low volume. It can make you angry and should not be listened to when you feel like punshing someone on the nose, because you might end up actually doing it. Musically it is a milestone that inspired a very large amount of mathcore bands.
this is by far today is the day’s most accessible offering, but don’t let that turn you off. in general, it’s still a bit too much music for the casual listener, and far too complex for most who would fancy themselves the “tastemakers” of the “underground”. mr. austin’s crafting of song is intricate and visceral, and his production is flawless as ever. he has the ability to move fluidly between passages mathematically technical to sublimely subtle and heartfelt to blissfully atmospheric in the scheme of a single song. he surgically blends unforgettable samples into many cuts so expertly that the most skilled hip-hop producer would doubt his or her own ability if they would only ever hear it. and just listen to “simple touch”. its melody is sweeping, the vocals tender and the guitar nearly jerks your tears forcibly from your eyes. not the usual fare from a band that so often gets pigeonholed as “extreme metal”. ah, trent reznor, why did you get the glory?
Simple prog comparisons do this dark metal little justice but here it goes; if you dig neurosis, deadguy, the buzz-oven sampling schtick this is pretty up there on my metal chart. The gut wrenching scringing is as awe inspiring like any old pink floyd or trail of the dead record you will ever download. 'my first knife' is a perfect example of the later. thanks, reviewstalker.blogspot.com
Get it here so you dont have to pay some dillhole $60 to get it on ebay. "My First Knife" is the joint, ya heard.
