eMusic Review
Seeking something more shocking than Napalm Death, guitarist and vocalist Bill Steer formed Carcass, a grindcore/gorecore outfit that was more metallic, lyrically graphic and disturbing than Napalm. With face-shearing guitars, eviscerating mosh parts and vocals that sounded like vomiting through a metal pipe, Carcass achieved the ultimate in carnage, creating music akin to a chainsaw ripping through a pile of rotting corpses. Many of the band's lyrics were culled from medical texts and Carcass delighted in lurid artwork rife with death and decay. Pretty much every band today with splattery cover art owes something to this gruesome quartet.
