I became a full Tyner convert with The Real McCoy (sadly not available on eMusic) and Trident is another great album. The harpsichord tracks are amazing.

Startling HARPSICHORD !

The-Whole-Guitarist

The album opens with a stark harpsichord intro - yes, that's right, harpsichord. You don't hear many of those in a jazz setting. Anyway Tyner delivers his usual high voltage performance (he does switch to piano). A must if you enjoy the work of this adventurer, who was really one of the founding fathers of what was picked up, electrified and became jazz-rock fusion.

They Say All Music Guide

Pianist McCoy Tyner’s first full-length trio album since 1964 was one of his most popular. Accompanied by bassist Ron Carter and Elvin Jones, Tyner (who uses harpsichord and/or celeste for flavoring on three of the six pieces) shows why he was considered the most influential acoustic pianist of the era (before Bill Evans began to surpass him in that category). Whether it be Jobim’s “Once I Loved,” “Impressions,” “Ruby, My Dear” or Tyner’s three powerful originals, this set finds Tyner in peak form. – Scott Yanow
