The Lord of the Rings by Rosenman and Zaentz

danielfeinberg

this is a fantatsic album...as most people have mentioned it is from ralph bakshi's animated film, which due to the lack of foresight on the producers side, and lack of budget is unfinished BUT the music is complete and moves me each and every time i listen to it. i prefer the interpretation of the story through this score than the one composed for the trilogy of films by peter jackson

LOTR... but possibly not the one you want.

RichardF

If you're looking for the score to the live action Lord of the Rings starring Elijah Woods et al, this isn't it. This is the music from the 1978 animated version (see http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0077869/ for details). Having got that out of the way for the people who weren't paying attention this is (in my opinion) worth a listen. Be warned, it is less easy on the ears than Howard Shore's lavish attempt which would follow. Oh... and for any sci-fi fan who thinks Rosenman's name sounds familiar, he also wrote the score to Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home... among many other film scores.

I don't know what it is. I've lisened to other lord of the rings music and this isn't it. The one created by Fe Howard Shore sounds like it, but i cant find it anymore. what's going on with emusic?

evocative, emotive edifice

I've always had a soft spot for Ralph Bakshi's somewhat abortive take on LOTR. The creepy/beautiful rotoscoped animation made quite an impression on me and informed many a nightmare. Rosenman's score is similarly creepy/beautiful; moving from the sort of lush orchestral harmonies which inevitably accompany the Shire and its inhobbitants (ref Rosenman or Howard Shore or Bo Hansson) to the downright scary percussive dissonance of Orc marching music. I was always sorry that Rosenman didn't incorporate more genuine Tolkien elements - while there is one ethereal melody, it is really crying out for some more Elvish - but all in all, it is a stirring, evocative musical journey along the Road.

From the early animated version

RichBS

This is actually music from the the animated version of lord of the rings back in the 70s. The film was poorly received - trying to cram all 3 volumes into one feature. The music, however, is grand.

TERRIBLE!!!

I honestly have no idea what this is. This music is from SOME MOVIE. But it IS NOT FROM THE LORD OF THE RINGS. THIS ENTIRE ALBUM IS MISLABELED. EMUSIC IS TERRIBLE!!! HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN!
