EXACT COPY OF other album found here on eMusic!

ACJones0112358

This is the exact same album as "Sea Songs & Shanties: From The Last Days Of Sail" also available from eMusic here: http://www.emusic.com/album/Various-Artists-Sea-Songs-Shanties-From-The-Last-Days-Of-Sail-MP3-Download/11596564.html So I recommend downloading either but be careful not to download both. These are field recordings, but these are some of the most listenable ones you can find! I think some of these were recorded by one of the Lomaxes. I recommend these, but I recomend listening to the preview samples first, and deciding whether these are for you. Have realistic expectations.

Things to sing while strolling the waterfront

FMRL

I find myself skipping to the tracks by Bob Roberts which comprise half the CD, as his single voice & accordion feel more lively than the group & single a capellas which comprise the other half. I especially enjoy the humorous "Stormy Weather Boys", classic "Whiskey Johnny", and odd "Windy Old Weather". The bit about King Louis in "Haul Away Joe" is pretty choice, and "The Sailor's Alphabet" performed by Clifford Jenkins is my favorite of the non-Bob Roberts tracks. Though I lean to Roberts' half of the disc, the whole thing is worth a listen.

Don't be put off

Harry Cox was one of the finest English traditional singers of the 20th Century. Bob Roberts was a working bargeman, who sang of what he knew. This music is REAL. If you don't like it, then perhaps you aren't. Sorry, but reality isn't always pretty.

Archive Material - Excellent Stuff

crikeymiles

These tracks are old and 'authentic'. Harry Cox never had Pro Tools, and if he has a thick accent - SO WHAT! - he's from Naaarfukk (Norfolk). This is a charming collection of timeless tunes, download and then force your friends to sign them in rounds whilst spilling a pint of mild on themselves!

Go No Further

Shantycowboy69

The recording is terrible, unliscenable at times, and the material is worse. Horrible voices and speech impediments make this one to stay away from.
