The start of Carlin's beautifully "angry" style
Carlin's style has progressively changed over the years. Compare routines like "Class Clown" (1970s, laid-back, anecdotal), "Fussy Eater" (1980s, sharp wit yet goofy), and "Religion" (1990s, unapologetic social commentary). This album marked the transitioning from style 2 to style 3. Carlin starts with a rant against conservative politics and other views of the late 80s. Style-wise, it’s different than anything he ever did previously. Cold and calculated, but still it’s funny. The rest of the album is simply hilarious. Even "More Stuff on Cars and Driving" (a continuation of sorts form "Carlin on Campus"), which is normally an over-done topic for stand-up, is original and still side-splitting. If you liked the goofiness of "Playin' With Your Head" or "Carlin at Carnegie" but also like the bite of "Parental Advisory" and "Jammin' In New York", this is an excellent in-between album to get. And the fact emusic breaks it down into 4 big tracks makes it a steal.
