Jeffrey Thomas’ BWV 12 is a Musical Miracle
There are very rare occasions in which a musical performance was able to top any other and change the way I thought of a musical piece, and Jeffrey Thos’ recording of Bach’s Cantata BWV 12 is one of these rare moments. With the shining soprano of Julianne Baird, Thomas is able to create this miracle in the opening chorus “Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen” (“Weeping, lamenting, worrying, fearing") by using a one-voice-per-part in a madrigal-style lament which moved me more than any other performance. Unfortunately, the other cantatas aren’t that good and I would just download BWV 12.
