Mojo and Skid at their Best

I love this album. From "Debbie Gibson..." to "Louisiana Liplock" to "She's Vibrator Dependent," Mojo proves that he's a juvenile, sex-obsessed fool. In other words, FUN. For a good taste of the madness that is Skid Roper, check out "Circus Mystery."

weakest of the '80s albums

Like a lot of albums from the early CD era, ROOT HOG OR DIE is overlong, both in that there are songs that go on far too long by themselves and songs that wouldn't make the cut if the album was 38 minutes instead of 56. And frankly, "(619)239-KING" is a pale rewrite of "Elvis Is Everywhere." On the other hand, there's several worthwhile tunes here, particularly a wild "This Land Is Your Land" and the great "Debbie Gibson Is Pregnant With My Two-Headed Love Child."

Musical comedians rise or fall on their humor as well as the music. This hard-rockin’, sex-obsessed rockabilly-lover with an Elvis fixation manages to maintain a high level of both on this release. With titles including “Debbie Gibson Is Pregnant With My Two-Headed Love Child” and “She’s Vibrator Dependent,” it’s clear that much of his sense of humor is just below the belt. – Mark Allan
