Where's the rest of Cat Power, Emusic?

chris_gonzales

I've been an emusic subscriber for about three years now. Ever since it was limited to cool indie music only. I thought it was good the way it was. Now we're told how much better off we are with access to major catalogues and name artists. Sure, there's a lot of new stuff. But has anyone noticed how much music is now missing. Like many of you, I no longer have access to tons of music I've downloaded from emusic because they've apparently lost those contracts, including Cat Power. So, we get some new major catalogs and lose others (see Arcade Fire and I'm sure you can name many others). It gets more expensive, we still can't carry over unused tracks, and we lose as much music as we gain. Are we better off? I say no.

Perfection

BridieMuldoon

This is perfection. "Still in Love" is likely one of the best cover songs I have ever heard-I ran out and bought a Hank Williams Sr CD after listening to it. Last song...yes...perfect for the heartbroken and drunk to scream along with. I really can't say enough-this is an excellent work.

I don't think I can even listen to this album anymore. The last track... the last track... there's no telling how long... drop dead...

Who Is…EMA

By Marissa G. Muller

For Fans Of: Kim Gordon, Lydia Lunch, early Cat Power, Zola Jesus EMA's Erika M. Anderson doesn't fuck around. The Sioux Falls, South Dakota-born songwriter, and former frontwoman for the short-lived but cultishly-adored outfit Gowns, may have flirted with expulsion from her middle school for a prank involving a dissected frog, but when it comes to her artistic life, Anderson has always maintained a zen-level focus. "If I'm going to do something," she… more »

They Say All Media Guide

The 1996 album Myra Lee presents a more diverse and fully developed version of Cat Power’s music, ranging from the winding, acoustic menace of “Enough” to the sinewy rock of “We All Die.” Introspective epics like “Great Expectations,” “Faces,” and “Wealthy Man” use churning tempos and spiraling guitars to convey Chan Marshall’s melancholy musical vision, but gentler songs like the trembling cover of Hank Williams’ “Still in Love” and originals like “Top Expert” and “Ice Water” are parts of the picture as well, adding warmth and roundness to the album. As always, Marshall’s yearning voice lends extra emotion to her songs, whether it’s her clear, soaring vocals on the new version of “Rockets” or her distant, half-heard moans on the final track, “Not What You Want,” which sounds genuine to the point of eavesdropping. This raw, overheard sound infuses Myra Lee with a sonic honesty that matches the album’s heartfelt songwriting. – Heather Phares
