gorgeous
i first d/led 'Northern Country', on a whim, and adored it more than i could have ever predicted. i had to have more, and got 'When...' to satisfy my craving. i adore it too, but for very different reasons. 'When' is a more accessible album, but that isn't to say it is better/worse than 'Northern'. each track on 'When' is a delicious bite of folk/pop, crackling with joy and sadness intermittently. the songs are well constructed, and the entire album is a satisfying listen. 'Northern' tends to ignore pop construction for a more ethereal, possibly moodier, album, sophisticated through deconstruction. either way, adrian crowley creates beautiful songs, and these two albums are beautiful companions. for fans of: nick drake, mojave 3, james yorkston.
