8i0s Clarence

SoulStranger

Folks looking for the original 60s versions of "Strokin'" and "Slip Away" should know the versions here are re-recordings. That said, this is a nice sampler of 80s Clarence.

Smokin'!

Well, I came upon this one by accident, but let me tell you...this guy has got the groove going on, ladies, I mean, I know a smooth talker when I hear one. I might rank him up there near Al Green; although I believe no one's as good as he. Listen to Dr. C C, and of course if you haven't heard, Strokin' at a bar or a kareoke gathering, then you just haven't lived. The sound is terrific, and from what I can recall, this album sounds as if it's the original.

Bawdy Clarence Carter at his braggadocios best. These 13 tracks include the edited single version of “Strokin’” and the unedited, long, and dirty (six minutes and 23 seconds) rendition. Other double entendres and nastys are “Grandpa Can’t Fly His Kite,” “I’m Not Just Good, I’m the Best,” and “Dr. CC.” The rest feature Carter displaying his storytelling skills on good Southern soul numbers like “Slip Away,” “Messin’ With My Mind,” and “I’m Between a Rock and a Hard Place.” – Andrew Hamilton
