Five exquisite suites dedictaed to transcendental being
2003 | Label: New Earth

Trying to recommend just one release from Deuter is kind of like trying to choose just one dessert from the kitchen of Paul Bocuse — they're all divine, but Buddha Nature really speaks from the heart and art of Deuter, both personally and musically, as he reaches from deep within to craft five exquisite suites dedicated to transcendental being. "Illumination" is a 27-minute epic of pure radiance and grace.

For those not head-over-heals about New Age, but in the healing arts

jtripper22

I've listened to this album so many times, I feel like I could play every note of it...and I don't play an instrument (very well). That being said, it's a nice fit in the rotation even still.

Better than a kick to the head

PunkinButt

Although, to be fair to yourself, you should actually receive a kick to the head for an honest comparison.

BEWARE - WILL COST 12 CREDITS

QoftheU

Nice album, great music to meditate too or sleep with, but before you do -- note that if you choose to d/l the album you will be charged 12 credits for 5 songs!! TOTAL bs that em does this imo but beware... it'll cost ya. NOT worth 12 credits imo.

You will fall asleep

And I mean that in a good way! I have 3 Deuter cds on my Zune and play them almost every night as I fall asleep. Dreamy, beautiful, enchanting.

Even my Dog loves Deuter

kid.rahu

My older dog is quite the music critic. She will actually wag her tail and turn circles to reggae and flamenco. I can not play "The Red Violin" without headphones because she will cry. The music from this album, and others by Deuter, makes her calm and she stretches out on the floor (instead of curling up). I'm glad that she and I can enjoy this music together.

I have home based massage and this music has been a central part of the playlist. I highly recommend this for soothing music that transports one to a different reality.

His best

There's a reason BN's number one on the eMusic New Age list. It's the most uplifting, spiritual music Deuter has ever created.

Stress Reliever

larryolivier

Even if you're not a holistic healer, this album is fantastic for stress relief. I have a very high stress job in a hospital, and I find that Buddha Nature in my MP3 player on my breaks really helps me stay grounded.

Deuter: Innovative German electronic pioneer during the prog rock era, went the way of Florian Fricke and dove deep into the waters of the new age. Deuter went far deeper, however, retaining none of his connection with the street or underground music scene that spawned him. He has become a leading light in the music of healing and meditation, and Buddha Nature is his most focused yet most stridently abstract work in this genre to date. Deuter’s correct perception that Buddha Nature is inseparable from bliss/void and compassion — illustrated by the image of Avlokiteshvara (the Buddha of compassion who the Dalai Lama is said to be a reincarnation of) on the cover — creates five meditative tracks that deal with different aspects of the Path impressionistically. His trademark blend of keyboards, flutes, stringed instruments, and ambient soundscapes creates a web of musically impressionistic narratives that delve underneath the active perception of the listener and create a sense of stillness. The longest track here, “Illumination,” which is almost 28 minutes in length, hovers in one timbral range for most of it while keeping the music flowing and pouring through, changing like waves on a beach. Elsewhere, on the title track, all of the melodic fragments are engaged in a process of unfolding at the same time. It’s quite remarkable that so much could happen in what seems like a static music. There are moments when the “bliss” element can be overbearing, especially on the last track, “Blessing,” but in all, this is as good as new age music gets. – Thom Jurek
