Like the Soundtrack to a Broadway Show...

Solipsy

that could never actually be staged, but you picture it in your head and laugh with delight while it plays. I won't lie. "The Elephant's Baby" is not for everyone. Fader's voice is lush and versatile like a slinky, classy torch-song balladeer. Her songs, however, are boldly arranged odd vignettes in which she shape-shifts to portray compelling characters who sometimes do inexplicable things or make titillating confessions of their human desires and weaknesses. The album is oddly compelling; emphasis on the "oddly" there. I love it, but then I'm a bit crazy too.

Haunting and Poetic Cabaret Music

Cosmosis

Perhaps appropriately, I cannot remember how I heard about this album or even why I was compelled to download it. Yet, once heard, I was hard pressed to stop listening. Fader's voice is wonderful, her lyrics are compelling (often bordering on funny and nightmarish), and her arrangements and choice of instruments are unique. Recommended reading while listening to: Circus of the Earth and the Air by Brook Stevens.
