Many jazz players and students study the piano canon w/ the likes of Art Tatum,Monk, and of course Bill Evans; however, asking Bill Evans and he points to Lennie Tristano as the prototype--the man who without, a Bill Evans and a Keith Emerson would not exist.
'Manhattan Studio' derives from worktapes from Trintano's New up-tempo pieces especially: 'Momentum, I'll Rembember April' and, above all 'All The Things You are', which is like a working artistry, and he's assisted by Ind's simply melodic solos and Weybrun's steady beat. This was peviously available on an Elektra LP, 'New York Improvisations'.
