Immortal Technique, Revolutionary Volume 2
2004 | Label: Nature Sounds / The Orchard

This fall's perfect soundtrack for rocking the ballot box comes from Immortal Technique, a young, Peruvian-born and Harlem-raised rapper with anger to spare. Having distinguished himself as one of the underground's most dexterous freestylers, his second album — featuring guest spots from Jean Grae, C-Rayz Walz and even Mumia Abu-Jamal — improves with tighter storytelling and songwriting. Where other MCs find satisfaction in skewering each other, this one uses the microphone as a weapon against larger foes: "I'll do a free show in North Korea, burning the flag!" he shouts with a genuine, choked-up rage. Like Public Enemy and the Coup before him, Immortal Technique never gave up on hip-hop's potential for political attack, and whether reporting from the corner ("Harlem Streets"), deconstructing drug traffickers ("Peruvian Cocaine"), lashing out at corporate America ("Industrial Revolution") or fantasizing about regime change ("The Point of No Return"), he is that rare lyricist who is more likely to name-check Enron or Paul Wolfowitz than Eminem or Jay-Z. Look no further for truth in the form of hip-hop.

Some just cant handle the Truth!

dantron773

This is probably some of the most educated rap you will ever hear. To djdigitaljosh, don't hate the album just because your brainwashed and base your life around 2000 year old fairy tales. The only thing twisted is how religion is used to oppress and control people. Wake up, and seek the real truth and then you will be free!!

This Album's Trash!

djdigitaljosh

If you put Garbage in, you'll get Garbage coming out. Go check out the Ghostwriter. He's the best I've heard this year. He blows this twisted soul away by far!

You need this.

DAAAAAMMMMM!!!!

I am an old schooler, 45 years in this treacherous world, to be exact! When I first heard Internally Bleeding, it knocked the sh*t outta me (lyrically). I had to hear more. Obnoxious was just as strong. This is not for the faint-hearted, or those in denial of the current state of affairs (globally). Much props to I.T. for having the balls and the flow that's as raw as the falling skin of the asian's in the vietnam war (check utube videos for that scene).

This album will rock your world. The title Revolutionary Vol. 2 is an understatement. I know Bill O'Riley is afraid of 50-cent and that crap he puts out. But this is the real reason he should be afraid of Hip-Hop. "Obnoxious" is classic.

Unlike any other....

BuzzLiteBeer

I'm not a big fan of hip-hop (Im a classical dude and also listen to blues/rock). But Immortal Technique is something else...My main issue with mainstream rap was that it was lacking in substance...it was all dance beats with lyrics about hoes, money and other nonsense. This album as well as others highlight what rap started out as: a way to rise above adversity and say soemthing productive.

If you don't already know, download this right now

j-mals

At the very least, download "The Point of No Return", "Peruvian Cocaine", and "Industrial Revolution". Please. There's a ton of gold on volume 2, Technique brings it to another level here. "Dance with the devil" on vol. 1 is also a must-have. This guy will blow your mind...no joke.

truth in the form of hip hop.

Technique spits wisdom madstyle! If Harlem Streets doesn't jerk you a tear, you have no heart.. enlightening listen the whole album through. Other honorable mentions would include Cause of Death, Peruvian Cocaine, The 4th Branch, Freedom of Speech, Homeland and Hip Hop...Again, I say, hit the 'download all' button.
