This is why Prog has deserved to be re-born!

peterfrederics

When you hear this Badger album it reminds you of how good old style progressive rock was and how it great it is that prog has been re-born. Classic stuff which leaves their bettr known luminaries like Yes for dead.

Superb!

Druid

Typically not a big fan of live music but this is an exception! The songs are consistently good throughout (the cover's nice, too). It's a shame Badger didn't leave more for us to listen to.

Why I've subscribed to emusic...

GLEN-BASS-PLAYER

Wow, this takes me back to 1969. Great live performance, compares well with Blind Faith. Emusic has been my online source of what I used to browse the used and cut-out bins for years, now they're adding some new MOR catalogs and nearly doubling the cost! I'm not a happy customer, even though they're still the top of the list. Well that's off topic, isn't it. Great album, I'd recommend downloading it to anyone. Peace, Glen

Cracking good prog rock funk

mactheruss

I was gobsmacked to discover this on eMusic - one of the albums you completely forget about until you see it, and then the memories come flooding back. Someone played this to me in my early teens when I was discovering the wealth of British rock, prog rock and more: Yes, Jethro Tull, King Crimson, Deep Purple, Rory Gallagher and more. Badger were unusual in choosing a live set as their first - and let's face it, easily best - recorded product. Listening to it now more than 30 years after I last heard it, it's much easier to analyse its appeal: tasty guitar licks, Hammond and keyboard virtuosity, sharp harmony vocals and a rock solid rhythm section pulsing with feel and energy. Shame they didn't stay together as the original unit for longer. But definitely one of those forgotten classic rock albums it's a real pleasure to rediscover.

Prog with balls

nathan.waterman

Albums like this are the reason I use emusic. I am still listening to my vinyl copy of One Live Badger! Of all the Yes spinoff albums, only this one, Fish Out Of Water, and Olias of Sunhillow can hold their heads high. Music! Unapologetic, straight-up stuff. From the days when musicians cared about music.

O-M-G!!!

Haven't heard this album in 33 years (yes, children - pre-cassette). What a wonderful surprise to find it available here. Still great. Still infinitely better than almost anything released in the last 20 years.

Peter Banks

eldonh

Hello. I'm Sure that Brian Parrish, who is the lead guitar player on this album is amused to find out that he's apparently Peter Banks under a different name! Its only TONY KAYE who is/was a Yes man on this album, however, I do agree its glorious!

An Overlooked '70s Prog Classic

virginiaprograsser

If you remember that great '70s prog sound and energy - or even more importantly, if you want to hear more of it! - then download this first of two Badger albums in its entirety. 'One Live Badger' is certainly early Yes-like but definitely not Yes having its own energy and drive that somewhat eminates from the fact that it was recorded live and somewhat from the overall strength of the material itself (Side 1 being somewhat stronger than Side 2). I have procrastinated digitizing my original gatefold vinyl (this Roger Dean cover is second only to 'TFTO') but this download takes care of that situation. I was pleasantly startled to see Badger available on emusic; excellent work, folks!!! :)Steve Sikes-Nova the virginiaprograsser Tidewater, Virginia, USA 'Newgrass, Prog & More!' 4-Star Internet Radio & Music Interviews (eg. eg. audio interviews with legendary prog rock and prog bluegrass musicians like Chris Squire, Ian Anderson, Carl Palmer, Sam Bush, John Cowan, and many more!).

They Say All Media Guide

One Live Badger is the easier Badger album to find, and the one worth having anyway. As the album’s title indicates, the band also took the unusual step of making their first album a live recording of original songs. It has aged very well — with all the energy of live performance, there’s none of the usual studio excesses or noodling of the era. The Yes connection via Tony Kaye is abundantly evident; the album was co-produced by Yes singer Jon Anderson, uses long instrumental breaks and prominent Hammond organ solos, and features the obligatory Roger Dean cover art. Nonetheless, the brooding lyrics and soulful harmonies make comparisons to Traffic and Blind Faith a much closer musical match. The first half of the album is excellent, kicking off with the pleasingly hoarse vocals of David Foster on the full-tilt rocker “Wheel of Fortune” and the pensive “Fountain.” There’s an especially tight rhythm section underlying the restrained guitar work of “Wind of Change,” combining to produce the album’s best song. But the second half of the album, with rather mopy numbers like “The Preacher,” doesn’t quite keep up this momentum. Reissued as a CD in 1993 by Repertoire Records. – Paul Collins
