A great way to begin a massage with a groove.
2000 | Label: Interchill Records / IODA

By Ishq (British guitarist Mark Hillier), Orchid isn't tethered to the new age section, much less to massage or healing — its atmospheric, languid tracks float, hum, percolate and pulse like hologramatic projections from another dimension. The opening track, "Skyblue," is simply gorgeous, and while it might be a tad busy for some bodyworkers, it's a great way to begin a massage with a groove and really set the stage for an uplifting experience.

Transient and Complete

Taba

The best of ambient artists take the listener beyond the music, producing something "more" in the mind and spirit. This album certainly accomplishes this...every time I listen.

Great for massage or to sleepless to sleep

katams

I love playing this album as the last album of the night especially tied into a very relaxing massage. People drift off into the other world that this album creates lulling them into a sweet deep and comforting sleep. Simply magical.

Death and Bhakti

maeric

I read an interview with the artist discussing the track 'Bhakti.' He wrote this to reflect on what the dying process was for a friend. The body holding on to the soul until finally it is released into the ethers. Bhakti is probably the most hauntingly beautiful song on the album and worthy of a download itself.

Love it!

Periwinkle

I love, love, love this album. I usually listen to it mixed in with my massage playlist, it blends very well and offers much needed interest to me, I never get tired of hearing it. Well done.

Portraits In Sound

jugaluck

I downloaded this over a year ago based on the samples. I have never tired of it. I agree that it is everything that ambient should be. I would describe the tracks on this album as portraits in sound.

u gotta get it

machrisod

this is an amazingly beautiful ambient disk. it's been over 2 years since i bought it and i still listen regularly. i think this disc alone redefines what ambient music should accomplish for the listener better than anything i've heard in a long time. very lush landscapes and melodic licks. if you like the genera this is a must have. also the AMG guide review is wrong. i think it's matt not mark hillier. remember when AMG was cool?

Lush

Xahulz

The album begins by sounding almost groovy and the transition to a lush, atmospheric sound is seamless. The tracks work well together, being distinguishable and yet following a theme, culminating in the stunningly gorgeous Bhakti. This is one of the few albums I refuse to just listen to my favorite tracks, since they truly have less impact out of context. Well worth the download.

Beauty for the ears

coykoi

This album consistently gives me goose bumps. Incredibly lush and emotive, i would never have the patience to write these songs but I'm so glad he did. Amazing stuff.

Possibly best ambient on Emusic

JMac

After several listens I declare this one of the best ambient albums I know of, and certainly in contention for the best of the genre available on Emusic. Starts off kind of trip-hop-ish, then moves to long dreaming-droning stretches, come-and-go melodies, environmental sounds, and more gentle beats. Warm, sweet, and summery, like its namesake.

Music for Massage

By Robert Phoenix, eMusic Contributor

The body is tired and the emotions are frayed. The stress of the modern world has settled heavily into the bones, and a weariness grabs hold and won't let go until it's touched, caressed, rubbed, stretched, pulled and, on the exhalation of a breath, released into the ether, evaporating back into nothingness. Music is a powerful agent of relaxation, a key element of this experience. In a sacred space, warmly illuminated by candles, the scent… more »
