fine mom! how's washington?!

this is when they started getting good. The Ice of Boston is a classic song. But really, their best stuff came on their last 2 albums. and if you missed the Plan live - you missed out!

This is who Cake thinks they are

I d/loaded this based on a DC blogger's recommendation. At first I was disappointed because I didn't want to like the singing/talking hybrid that Cake has, imho, murdered. But the album really grew on me and it's a great download. The songs really hang together and it's a great listen. I'll keep playing it.

Truly excellent

I got into these guys way too late, but I am really enjoying this album, and the one immediately following it, Emergency & I. If you skip other tracks, go for the hits and download The Ice of Boston and Academy Award. A truly enjoyable and unique album and band; check 'em out if you haven't already.

A four-piece outfit brandishing erratic musical directions, punk-rock energy and experimental songwriting may not sound like major-label material, but sure enough, based upon the strength of …Is Terrified, the Dismemberment Plan were scooped up by biggie Interscope Records. The group’s sophomore outing is not as neatly reigned in as its predecessor !, but pleasures abound: “That’s When the Party Started,” with a cool synth-pop sheen, sounds like an aggro Talking Heads, while the monologue that drives “The Ice of Boston” demonstrates singer Travis Morrison’s lyrical chops. – Brian Raftery
