one of Brandtson's very best

EMUSIC-SOMENUMBER

I've had this album since it came out, and I still love listening to it. There's just something infectious about the songs. I find it both musically and lyrically clever. I wouldn't label anything Brandtson has done as punk. Yes, there are some faster songs, but it's solidly "emo." I'm glad Deep Elm finally made it to emusic. Give Brandtson a try. Also get "Trying to Figure Each Other Out" and "Send Us a Signal" (not on emusic, yet).

Brandtson’s second full-length album Fallen Star Collection delivers more of the intense, pop-tinged punk that the group introduced on Letterbox. However, this collection of songs is tighter and brighter, while retaining the band’s emotional pull. Songs like “As You Wish” and “Things Look Brighter” display all of Brandtson’s sonic trademarks – aggressive rhythms and guitars pitted against soaring harmonies – as well as sharp songwriting and a healthy respect for pop hooks. Though Brandtson doesn’t break any new musical territory here, with Fallen Star Collection they improve upon an already good thing. – Heather Phares
