We are so lucky to have this on emusic

Milligan-man

It's great to have so much of Bebel Gilberto's catalogue on emusic, but this album is probably the best of them all. The whole album is great but my fav tracks are "River Song," "Aganju," "Winter" and "Next To You." There is also an interesting 2005 "Remixed" collection that offers different arrangements of many songs on this album, the most notable of them being "Next To You" which is almost better than the original.

great stuff!

This lady has a great voice and terrific sense for interpetation. She presents the music in fine fashion and is certianly worthy of carrying the Bossa torch for the next generation of the Gilberto family

I was actually looking at the Record Label SDR and I listened to several m3u's of Bebel Gilberto. I recognized her music because Thievery remixed Cada Beijo. If Thievery digs her then so do I.

Bleghhh!

Bebel is to brazilian music as Taco Bell is to mexican food -- tasty and more or less palatable, but stripped of all the depth, passion, and flavor that made the original good. But I guess I'm just annoyed that her name comes up every time I start discussing real brazilian music at a party. Seriously, folks, if you want some cool, mellow samba with some excellent vocals, check at some of Beth Carvalho's pagodes. Brazil is a vast country, almost the size of the US, and there's enough music there that we don't have to fixate on this bimbo just because her father had talent. Speaking of which, his last disc, Voz e violao was quite good.

Thanks Joao...

As brazilians say "son of a fish, little fish is". Bebel plays with voice resembling her dad with guitar. Another musical salute to the Bossa from Gilberto's family...Thanks for Joao and Astrud...

`bebel gilberto` is a musical treat... an album of great melody, great feel and a great voice... ideal to cool a summer afternoon or warm a winter evening

An Amazing Sound!

I liked Tanto Tempo, but it was pretty much background music. This new CD has a brilliant, creative edge to it. Usually, the second album by an artist doesn't live up to the first. In this case, Bebel Gilberto exceeds her first album in quality, choice of song, and creativity. Not redundant. I have heard new things in every song each time I play it. The production is crystal-clear, without being over-produced. Definitely not background music...it's forefront music!

Although Bebel Gilberto has been writing, performing, and recording since her childhood, this is only her second full-length solo album. The child of Brazilian legend João Gilberto and the celebrated singer Miucha, she comes by her musical talent honestly, but has honed and developed it carefully over the years, being careful not to overexpose herself or peak too early; as a result, she now emerges as a mature and fully developed singer despite her relative youth. Her eponymous sophomore effort is a delightfully warm and unaffected program of Brazilian pop, much (but not all) of it in a fairly traditional bossa nova style. There are electronic elements in the mix, but they are mostly kept in the background; instead of aggressive electronica or superimposed breakbeats, the instrumental accompaniment is mostly woven from organic percussion, acoustic guitars, bass, and piano. This all serves to keep one’s attention where it belongs: on Gilberto’s sweet, rich voice and her gorgeous melodies. Highlights include the lovely “Aganjú,” the gently heartbroken “Every Day You’ve Been Away,” and the lilting, almost funky “Cada Beiju.” Very highly recommended. – Rick Anderson
