Early Work From The Real Boss
If you don't have these songs and like Tom Waits, why are you reading this and not downloading this CD? Same for Volume 1. If you don't like Tom Waits, I feel for you. You're missing out on a true American treasure.

alhough much of the two albums offered by itunes are not reminisent of his current offerings, this site is well worth checking out if not just for the xtra offerings of tube time.
Tom Waits has written so many achingly beautiful, funny, and witty songs that it would take 4 or 5 volumes to properly catalogue them. As much as I like the songs chosen here, I think they are best enjoyed on his albums, all of which are carefully constructed to create a specfic groove and expereince for the listener, especially his later stuff which can be loosely defined as concept albums and flat out mini-operas. This is a good place to start, but buy the records!
Excellent if earnest tracks, especially Nobody and Please Call Me, Baby; Diamonds on my Windshield too.
this is cool, classic waits, but not my speed. emusic -- we need some of his gritty stuff! give me an accordion and some pots n pans. rain dogs, big time, 9th & hennepin! aw hell what do I know?
I have 3 Tom Waits CD's and this doesn't sound like him.
So this is what his voice sounded like before a million cigarettes and a few drums of scotch. It is so beautiful.
This is a great intro to Tom's music. Nothing but pure singer/songwriter bare and putting his soul and emotions out for all to connect with. Sounds like it was written today. Give it a chance and check it out.
But don't let that put you off. This album has travelled with me through many of life's trials and triumphs. I have recommended it to everybody I know, usually on first meeting them. I love it. Standout tracks are Hope I don't, Ol 55 and Grapefruit Moon. Simply beautiful.
for the review to diss the early compilations. I have both of them; while I love them both, this is my favourite of the two. The different versions of his songs are always interesting, and I love the pared down sound.
