Texas Velvets? Awesome indeed!
Truly an enjoyable listen. Wish they kept cranking them out. All of Black Lipstick's releases are worth getting but this is my favorite.

On their label's website, Black Lipstick was described as Modern Velvet Underground Lover Feelies on acid, or something to that effect. Simply put, if you dig the Velvets and their indie heritage, you'll probably love Black Lipstick. As a side note, the track listed above as "Periods" should actually be "...", as it is listed on the CD case. Myself, I call the song "October Without You." Much better title than "Periods." :-)
Anyone new to Black Lipstick would be wise to start at the Kiss Offs and then on to the first Black Lipstick EP. The EP more or less defines "shoegazing". I may be the only person in Philly who owns a Black Lipstick t-shirt but I love this band....
solely on the basis of "Grandma Airplane" i've decided to download the entire album.. The track is sweet and reminds me of Mercury Rev back in the nineties when they were awesome.. but without the distortion production values.. the next track is "Throw Some Money At It" and I sure will..
Everytime I spin this, i love it even more. It's the raw 2000 version of Lou Reed with some sensibilities of the brian jonestown massacre. Start with 'Grandma Airplane' and work your way in. don't let the fake stones like the strokes let you ignore the real groove thing happen' here. | djspork.libsyn.com | -cheers.
