A second-tier zydeco legend
Sidney isn't mentioned in the same breath as zydeco legends like Clifton Chenier or Boozoo Chavis, but "My Toot Toot" was the first zydeco hit to cross over onto the regular singles chart, going platinum in the early 80s. To modern ears, Sidney's sound is a little cheesy -- there are lots of Casio keyboard beats and synth bass on these songs, and Sidney's delivery is far too sanitized compared to the bayou greats, all of which does detract from the authenticity of his sound. But a few songs here, like "Jalapeno Lena," "Cochon," and "Joe Pete" show that, Sidney still had something to offer.
