excellent
This is a really underrecognized, fantastic recording, featuring O'Carolan tunes like Festus Burke (which Brendan recorded with Billy McComiskey years before in the band the Irish Tradition) & Morgan Magan in beautifully ornamented settings, as well as jigs & reels powerfully played. Brendan was listening to a lot of Baroque music (Corelli, Geminiani) & this comes through in the selections, ornamentation and arrangements (e.g. the harpsichord instead of piano on Festus Burke). The album is very much a showcase of both Brendan and Donna, and the solo piano sections (e.g. Mrs Judge) are great as well -- Donna (now with Cherish the Ladies) doubles on the melody at points, and has come up with dynamic and elegant arrangements that make her playing much more interesting and evocative than most piano accompanists of trad. music. Highly, highly recommended.
