Quite a find

OblongRobber

I didn't pay much attention the first go-round with these guys, but I happened upon this in that weird eMusic way. I like just about everything on this disc; the highlights for me were "Sunshine," "Echo" and "Inside." Better than "Everything You Want," and one of the top finds for me on eMusic.

One that gets better as you listen

Frisbeetarian

At first pass, I downloaded 6 tracks. But I had to come back for more. 'Claybertus' nails this review (except that I think that the best track is the "bonus" track).

not quite as good, but still cool

Everyone is always saying - what happened to vertical horivon - they peaked in 1999 and then faded off the charts - I was very happy whien I heard I'm Still Here, b/c it was really good and on a new album - I didn't even realize VH had another album! Althoug,h now listening to it in its entirety, only 2 and 3 are great, track 8 is pretty good, and the rest are decent but not on par with their first album

should have been bigger

i've loved VH since 1999. I can't believe I skipped this album. My music tastes changed a bit since 99 to this release, but I'm glad I found my way back to VH. #1,2,6,10 are my favorites!!

Awesome!!!

VH are one of my favorite bands. This album should be viewed as a pinnacle in their career. Solid from start to finish. I particularly love "It's Over". Written like a ballad should be. It's sad that good music like theirs is not supported by radio these days. They should be a lot bigger than they are, that's for sure. Maybe they should record a hip hop album... I've seen them live a few times and I was not disappointed each time! They did a killer version of U2's "Beautiful Day" that I wish was recorded and available somewhere. If you've never checked out their old stuff, you should. It's a lot different than their more recent music but it's excellent none the less. Great band!!!

Another EMusic Gem!

I have a very particular sound that I like when looking for new music. The music must be clean, crisp, spacious, and full. I find all of this with Vertical Horizon on Go. This is not a wasted download by any chance.

This band used to be so good...

Okay, not great; don't be a music snob

emmzee

So I listed to a few songs, and I think they're okay. Not great, not terrible. Ignore the indie snobs and decide for yourself whether or not this is the right band for you. All those people who love undiscerningly whatever indie band is "hip" at the moment (currently Arcade Fire, Spoon, Neko Case, etc) are just as lame followers as those who enjoy good pop rock. Nothing wrong with Arcade Fire and Spoon, but don't dismiss a band like VH just because they have a traditional pop sound.

So I rated it in this review. Solid album from an established band.

They Say All Music Guide

In 1999, Vertical Horizon didn’t have much with which to follow its breakthrough single, “Everything You Want.” And yet the song’s percolating groove provided enough sustenance for listeners led astray by Secret Samadhi, Live’s pompous follow-up to Throwing Copper. Now, Vertical has returned with Go, an album in which “When You Cry” stands in for “Everything You Want” and introduces the album’s catch phrase psychotherapy, with Matthew Scannell singing “I can’t wait until you let me down.” “I’m Still Here” seems to cross the band’s 1999 hit with Michelle Branch’s “Everywhere,” which was produced by Go helmer John Shanks. “Echo” is at once the album’s hookiest and most opaque moment, applying the familiar acoustic/electric, quiet-loud formula. “I don’t want to be just another echo,” Scannell sings. [This version of the album includes the bonus track "Better When You're Not There."] – Johnny Loftus
