Alternately sweet and sinister, 46bliss blend bubbling dance beats with gauzy synths and ethereal vocals to make gleaming pop for the 21st Century. Their strength is in the paired vocals of David Cooper and Clare Venoit, the former rough and reedy, the later cool and elegant. "Three Days to Live" recalls the eerier moments in the Depeche Mode catalog, with pinpricks of synth and a barely-there beat; "Desire Give Way" is anchored in a fat bass synth and ricochet rhythm and "Inner Sensation" pitches and rolls like the ocean.

If You Like Synth-Pop...

elizabeth

...with a touch of trip-hop and a tiny smidge of emo, you'll enjoy this album. As the AllMusic review suggests, you'll be reminded of Depeche Mode. It also appealed to my own fan sensibilities not just for DP but for Bernard Sumner's projects and for U2 in the AB-Zooropa era. But don't be fooled by the synth, there is some nice guitar work here too, ala Yo La Tengo.

BLISSED OUT x 46!

I just found this album by random browsing, and it is a little belter! It sounds kind of like The Beloved if they were mixed by Daft Punk. Definitely feel-good and sweetly spaced-out, but not ever lapsing into New Age anodyne. A gem!
