sample on eMusic, buy in disk form

eMusic got it right to make this a "pick". It is a great Ozo release, but the real value is in the DVD that is packaged with the CD in stores. Sample a couple tunes, then make a dash for BestBuy or Amazon to get the full set. Great stuff!

Yeah, I hear you.

Yes, Ozo is a pretty decent band. I heard them live in Phoenix in the summer of twenty-o'-five. At the time I had my mind matter all jostled as a result of viscious pulls of the Turkey, but I must say, I had an amazing time. This is one of their better albums, it captures well they're live energy, though that estimation may be coloured by the fact that I have actually seen them live. This is a good band, and clever at that (in an effort to avoid the cliche encore, all shows end with a 15 min percussive explosion that begins on the stage and culminates in the lobby of the venue, or perhaps even parking lot). Definitely worth the time. Brings a smile to my dirty Mexican face.

Great!

I have been a fan of Ozomatli for several months now and this complation doesn't disappoint! Their style fuses traditional latin sounds with more contemporary rock, hip-hop, and other styles. Very enjoyable!

LOVE OZO!!

Wow! This set rocks. These marvelous musicians put on an energetic, unique and irresistable show, as seen in the DVD that accompanies this release. I adore the "brass" sounds that punctuate the lyrics and the percussion: saxophone, trombone and trumpet. If you like Blood Sweat & Tears or Chicago, don't fail to check this out.

They Say All Media Guide

Although they won a Grammy for their previous studio album, 2004′s Street Signs, the ten-piece multicultural music collective known as Ozomatli have always been first and foremost a live act, and experiencing the group’s explosive, energetic stage show, which mixes salsa, punk, reggae, funk, hip-hop, and touches of jazz into a barrio gumbo block party with leftist leanings, is like watching a renegade Gypsy street circus come to life, complete with massive percussion and massed horns. At last, perhaps to honor their tenth anniversary, Ozomatli have released a ten-track live set recorded at the legendary Fillmore in San Francisco in late 2004, along with an accompanying DVD of the concert that adds additional songs plus backstage footage and interviews. The CD features versions of the undeniably funky “Saturday Night,” the lovely “Believe,” and the poignant “(Who Discovered) America?,” all from Street Signs, as well as earlier Ozomatli gems like the racing, jittery “Como Ves,” but it is the visual representation of the show on the DVD that really shows the full force of this incredible group, which has built a new template for what an American band can be in the 21st century. Passionate, diverse, fiercely independent, and ardently political, Ozomatli have an ace in the hole: they’re one of the best dance bands in recent memory. – Steve Leggett
