Mercedes Sosa, pure and simple
What a wonderful find! This is the sweetest, most soulful set of recordings of Mercedes Sosa I've heard, performing an irresistibly beautiful set of zambas and other folksongs. Simple (usually just Mercedes and a skilled guitarist), unembellished, unpretentious, and purely satisfying, the songs range from haunting to rousing, and her voice is rich, strong, deep yet feminine, and generally overcomes the foghorn-like timbre that creeps into her more popularized recordings.
