Great Collection by a Great American Poet
Billy Collins, former Poet Laureate of the US, has been called the most popular American poet since Frost, and it's easy to see why. His accessible free verse strikes a chord with audiences as he takes observations of everyday, often solitary activities and infuses them with humor and a keen sense of getting at the Larger Truth. If you have ever seen him reading his poetry live, you know what a treat it truly is. (I've actually had the pleasure of meeting him.) If you haven't, this collection is the next best thing. Collins reads his work with a laid back, almost laconic style, but never takes himself too seriously. This disc contains several of his most well-known poems such as the title track, plus "Workshop", "Nightclub",and "Forgetfulness". I do wish it contained a few more of my favorites like "Litany" and "Lanyard", but this is a fine collection, and a generous treat for 12 downloads (unless you take advantage of the link below - that's up to you).
