hardcore, new-wave

juanyovece

This album mixes together the great compatriots of hardcore and new wave. It's also hilarious, especially Pardon my freedom and Hello? Is this thing on? "is this thing on? why's everyone looking at me like i'm crazy!? i'm not crazy!"

one of my G.O.A.T. albums

i play this album with no interruption...i can play it at a dinner party (after the drinks start rolling), for people who need some awakening and for close-minded people that think that specific and particular genres only put out certain music that can and should be labeled and categorized.

Funny/Danceable/Punk

getgreg

If you're a fan of Girls Against Boys, there's a good chance you like Louden Up Now. The songs are incredibly funny and unexpectedly danceable, while still maintaining a discernable punk element. Also, the political references are hilariously awesome.

Dear Can

Smasher

For you djs or mixtapeologists out there I recommend downloading the track 'Dear Can'. It has a great beat, sexy vocal, and enough variation where it could go alongside something from Miguel Migs, the Scissor Sisters or some classic Tom Tom Club.

Takes a while to get used to.

This one took me a while to get the feel of -- lots of dirty language but a strong beat througout keep the interest level up. At first, I didn't "get" the groove that this album has, but after a couple listens, I found that I really enjoyed it. It has a unique feel that you won't find anywhere else.

No Sir, I Don't Like it

TNCreature

The samples sounded cool, but... Awful lyrics- grating production and tedious songs. I like music with a message, and I coldn't find one here. Sorry, I tried, I paid to download the whole album, and then deleted it. So I hope the band gets the royalty at least.

They Say All Media Guide

!!! could be lumped in with the other new wave dance-punk revivalists like the Rapture or Radio 4. That would be easy enough, as they all share an allegiance to the punky funk sounds of the ’80s as pioneered by groups like Gang of Four, the Pop Group, Talking Heads, and others. Rather than merely lumping them in, maybe one could say they are leading the pack. Louden Up Now is easily the best record to come out of the movement; its ten tracks are filled with fervor, hooks, passion, and power. And unlike many of their peers, !!! have politics. Angry, righteous politics. Antiwar, anti-Giuliani, anti-Bush and Blair, and proud of it. It is like a blast of fresh retro air to have a band not just updating the sound but carrying over similar ideals as well. That being said, this is still a dance album. All the grooves are designed to get you moving; the funky basslines, stuttering drums, flashing percussion, and chattering guitars combine to be solid indie dancefloor material. The vocals don’t get in the way of the groove; even at their spikiest, they are built into the overall sound. On “Dear Can,” they are even kind of sexy. The best track is the previously issued track “Me and Giuliani Down by the School Yard (A True Story),” but all the rest are right near it in quality. “Hello? Is This Thing On?” and the two-part epic “Shit Scheisse Merde” give it a run. Louden Up Now is a modern-day agit-pop indie dance-rock classic. If that is too narrow a slot to jam it into, then call it a modern-day indie rock classic. Or just a classic. The album also comes with an edited-for-language bonus “clean” disc. It would have been far more entertaining to have a bonus dub or just instrumental disc. At least this way they can sell records at Wal-Mart. – Tim Sendra
