The Turtles invited Ray Davies to produce Turtle Soup after being impressed by Village Green Preservation Society. So in many ways this is the Turtles' version of Village Green. Play 'em back to back and see what I mean. The difference is that instead of the Village Green that Ray Davies grew up with, which was reflected in the Kinks' album, the Turtles are Californian. The music is terrific, of course, as usual, but it's fun to listen to it as an American counterpart to the Kinks' Village Green.
