Love the album1

EMUSIC-1967

Punk did not start in the 80's! The Clash, New York Dolls, Ramones, and Iggy Pop would be offended.

Pretty good!

I like the covers in the beginning, particularly I Ran, I Melt With You, and Your Love. It's not much different than the originals, but pretty good.

To punk or not to punk?

pinkieandtherev

Only a couple of bands here that I've ever even HEARD of...and Relient K fits the definition of Pop-Punk perfectly. Not punk in the sense of the Sex Pistols, but at least as punk as Green Day. :) josh

Ignore the Title

Seriously, "Punk" is really just becoming a catch-all for anything with a distortion pedal. Much like how you can find Matchbox 20 in the "Alternative" section of some music stores. Overall, I like a decent cover, and there are some good ones on here.

let the 80's live on!!

I loved this album! For anyone who thinks this is not punk music you are wrong. This was the first punk music that you could actually understand the lyrics to. Yes, it is more mellow but Punk started in the 80's please remember that.

NOT Alphaville

Aryxus

Review is wrong wrong wrong... Forever Young is the song by Bob Dylan, popularized by (gag) Rod Stewart. It is NOT the one by Alphaville. Be warned. (and since I know I will get a bunch of crap, i'll point out now that I KNOW it is a cover version, but it is NOT a cover version of an Alphaville song)

Kinda Disgusting

fredricocorleone

No punk whatsoever on this thing. if you like poppy fad bands, then you might dig this, otherwise............ And why is Forever Young on here? It was written in 1974.

Releint K Manic Monday

jaymikem

I was only interested in getting Relient K's cover of Manic Monday, and they came through with a sweet rendition.

Love it

Great pop punk. My favorite is Reliant K's take on Manic Monday. "He tells me in his Quiet Riot Voice, Cum on Feel the Noise." Love it.

Punk Goes 80′s is a cute idea for a comp. Not very punk, not very original, but very cute and fun. Pop-punk stalwarts Fearless Records round up their stable of bands and some compatriots to do covers of ’80s pop hits. The bands who take liberties with their source material come off the best: Relient K’s quirky version of the Bangles’ “Manic Monday,” which somehow becomes a tribute to Quiet Riot, Halifax’s emo-tastic reworking of Paula Abdul’s “Straight Up,” and Jamison Parker’s techno destruction and rebuild of Tears for Fears’ “Everybody Wants to Rule the World.” Elsewhere the songs are about what you would imagine, with earnest remakes of tunes like Alphaville’s “Forever Young” (by So They Say), Modern English’s “I Melt With You” (by Sugarcult), and Simple Minds’ “Don’t You Forget About Me” (by Rufio) that don’t add anything to the originals but will appeal to fans of the bands doing the covering. Extra points for the CD cover’s dead-on parody of a tacky ’80s collection. – Tim Sendra
