A gritty 90s rap classic, tough and uncompromising
Label: Blunt Recordings / TVT Records

A bold, bristling, biting bit of 90s hip-hop, Mic Geronimo's The Natural if it had been released just a year or two later, would certainly have gone down as a classic of the genre. It was studded with cameos by future stars — among them Jay-Z, DMX and, uh, Ja Rule. It had the kind of grimy production that many of its contemporaries, like Nas and the Wu-Tang Clan, would ride to success. And Geronimo's flow is sturdy and nimble, making up in ruggedness what it may lack in inventiveness. Geronimo's career fizzled despite (or perhaps because of) a latter affiliation with Diddy, but The Natural today sounds just as uncompromising as ever.

A slepted on Classic

Figgy

This is the epitome of backpack , east coast 90's rap (black moons, Enta da Stage is tops thou). This is a classic album true and through . This is when irv gotti was at his best , before the ashanti , ja rule crap. this is Geronimo before his puffy days . On that note "time to build" features 3 artist that werent known much yet at the time ja , DMX , and Jayz (check out his faster flow). This is a classic right along with Illmatic and The infamous . This album will bring you back to 95, every tracks is worth downloading . but Shit is real, Masta IC , the natural are extraordinarily above par ....

If you like that grimey, pre-Diddy, 93-96 New York Hip-Hop, this has some gems. 4,7 & 10 are stand outs.

Hip-Hop Rarities, Part Two

By Joe Lopez (aka DJ Bazooka Joe), eMusic Contributor

After writing about the hip-hop rarities I found in 2006, I decided to continue the theme since another year has gone by and the eMusic label catalogue has grown immensely -- especially within the hip-hop genre. Labels like Warlock, Tuff City and Cold Chillin' have been added to the site, thrilling maniacal hip-hop collectors who thought they'd lost these titles in their attic or the trunk of that car they sold on Craigslist. eMusic has… more »
