Spriited Renaissance Performance
This is a wonderfully varied performance of the mostly instrumental Dances of Terpsichore by late Renaissance German composer, Michael Praetorius. Terpsichore was written in 1612 and is a compendium of over 300 instrumental dances. They are Praetorius' most well-known work, as well as his sole surviving secular work. They are often played at Christmas time. This selection of 28 of the dances has both well-known and little known pieces.
