Great Beethoven
A lot people despise the Liszt transcriptions of the symphonies. My advice is to avoid prejudice and let your ears be the judge. Scherbakov is a GREAT interpreter of Beethoven and these are superb renderings of the transcriptions. Just listen to how he builds the Shepherd's Prayer at the end of the sixth - profoundly moving! His recording of the fifth is even better.
