On Peak Hill is probably the best song on this album, though International Rock Star and Write What You Know are also very well done. You may find yourself hearing the My Radio chorus too often, and among several tracks, but it's still very enjoyable. Toxic Holiday is a relatively simplistic song, and is probably the weakest one. But overall, it's still completely up to par with their other albums.
Stars brings together lighter melodies and funky beats to create a unique sound. Throughout Nightsongs, there is a mix of the upbeat and the down low, casting a range of acoustic experiences that instill melancholy, blissful awareness, and other mellow feelings.
Nightsongs is the best album by this group. It is very mellow and chill. My favorite song, however, is not on it. You must own Nightsongs, but get your hands "Death to Death" from their Heart album.
I got into the Stars through their 2004 album "Set Yourself on Fire" and slowly backtracked through the catalogue from there. Out of all their albums I'd have to sya this one is the best. It ranges from french euro-pop on "Counting the stars on the ceiling" to indie-groove on the "My radio"s. An excellent album by a stellar band, well worth the cost.
I fell in love with the stars a few years ago when I heard their cover of this charming man. This album is solid... they have a fun, smooth sound. summer with the car windows rolled dowm.
"Anagrams" is the name of one of my favorite books - it's clever and heart-wrenching at the same time.I like sad songs you can dance to, and I like sad songs you can cry to. I like girl groups and electro-pop and Brit pop and twangy torch songs. I'm still haunted by some of the songs that I was obsessed with when I was a kid. I think "twee" and "deep" are not mutually exclusive. more »
