Things I wish I'd done

Glyndwr1969

I could have gone to this gig, but went out to some club in Manchester instead with the words 'I'll go next time she plays.' The following summer, she went and died, having gone clean for once (she lived in a Manchester slum at that point for the cheap smack!) Sound's a bit feint, but would still suck the atmosphere out of any room you played it in. That's the point of listening to Nico, nicht?

Girls Girls Girls

I am not allowed to program 3 hours of Emily Haines, so I decided to stretch out and include all of the female artists I love that we have on the site. I think I was pretty thorough, but I did sneak in Emily on a Broken Social Scene track, a track from a solo EP, AND a Metric cut, albeit a vintage one. Beyonce and Dolly are in the mix - take a listen! more »

They Say All Media Guide

Released on Visionary Records in September 1996, Janitor of Lunacy (named after a song on Desertshore) chronicles a performance by Nico in 1983 at the Library Theatre in Manchester, England, where she was living at the time. The recording is a step above an audience tape, but it still isn’t very good quality, and the sound deteriorates noticeably during the show’s final song, a cover of David Bowie’s “Heroes.” So, this disc must be considered, in essence, a legal bootleg rather than a legitimate live album. That said, Nico offers a good selection of songs from four of her six studio albums as well as the Velvet Underground favorites “Femme Fatale” and “All Tomorrow’s Parties” (the latter rendered a cappella). – William Ruhlmann
