There's an X from Australia?

buk nekkid

Hey, it's really X. I've been a member of eMusic for 7 years and they've had a lot of albums that said they were by X, but weren't. As far as I know, this is the first one actually by X. If you're looking for more, they do have albums by John Doe and one by the Original Sinners featuring Exene.

X'd out

The 'aussie X' did the classic "I Don't Wanna Go Out" available on eMUSIC on the album Aspirations - recommended! Sure wish the Knitters were on here, haven't heard the tribute album, yet. The new John Doe "A Year in the Wilderness" is top notch, BTW.

A diferent side of X

thistangledweb

The Unclogged album recorded by Los Angeles punk legends ~X~ reminds me a lot of their side project 'The Knitters' which carries more of a folk/rock/country edge. It's refreshing hearing the old tunes redone in a strip down version. I dig it!

I think somebody made a mistake- ok- fixed!

ssg

I really don't think this is the same X as in the X that recorded the punk classic Aspirations. This is a totally different X and has been put here by mistake, I sincerely hope. This sounds kinda like the bad country band playing in the dive-bar around the corner... No, really, I think this was put here in error... I'm not even going to listen to that Cloud 9 thing that's labeled as "dance," I'm already convinced someone doesn't know their X from a hole in the ground. But, who knows, that someone could be me. ***Addendum- Okay, at least now someone thought to separate the two bands as X (L.A.) and X (Australia)... both formed in '77, the Ausie's beat the US band to recording by about a year... I still prefer the Ausie's X and, oddly- as I grew up in Southern CA- that's the X I grew up with, so, if you don't know them, check them out!

Yup, there's definitely a mistake.....

Tanglukian

There are two X bands on this site: one is the classic X from L.A. whose first album was produced by Ray Manzanarek, and features the lineup of Billy Zoom, DJ Bonebrake, John Doe and Exene; the 2 other albums on this site are by an Australian band with whom I am not familiar. I love everything by X (the L.A. band), so hearing them do some of their old stuff accoustic was fine by me. X toyed with country and ballads, so this isn't that much of a shock.

Important Band

Chpmnksrgo

X is one of the most, if not the most important bands of the post-punk/LA era. To think otherwise means you haven't listened to enough of that music to know better. Check it out!

emusic mistake

MarcosMalo

they've got two bands named X mixed up. This LP is by the L.A. band X, from the early Los Angeles Punk scene. They've been playing again recently with the ORIGINAL line up, i.e., with guitarist Billy Zoom. Without Billy, they just weren't quite the same, though I did (and still do) love them. I'm DLing this as we speak, so I'll have to come back with a real review.

American History X

psycosm

Check your punk history, ssg. X from L.A. has some great early albums you'd like if you dig the Australian X. This is (the U.S.) X's acoustic album from 1995, while they're deep into the country jag. A nice offering from emusic while we wait til they secure the rights to the old Slash stuff now on Rhino...hah.

Perhaps referring to the staid forum known as contemporary “unplugged music,” or their own aging arteries, Unclogged successfully reprises X’s finest work in an electro-acoustic live set. No worse for the wear, John Doe and Exene Cervenka are in perfect voice, while Tony Gilkyson and D.J. Bonebrake play the songs they played a million times with the renewed spirit of a band that can finally relax and rest on its laurels. If there was ever anything to prove — that X was a supreme live band or that Doe and Cervenka were two of the most talented songwriters to come out of punk — this is the evidence. – Denise Sullivan
