Possibly the best re-recordings ever.

BeBopman21

Yes, let me join the chorus in warning one and all that these are re-recordings. But these are not cheap knock-offs done with musicians found on the street. Anderson did them with many of the musicians who recorded the originals so the songs sound about as good. The right speed, the right breaks, the same spirit. This was an absolute steal under my old eMusic pricing structure.

Saw him live way back when

RockinDaddio

One the greatest unknown stars of country music. Definitely a hall of famer. These are fine versions of his greatest hits.

Disclosure laws apply

Not bad, but not the originals, and this is not pointed out on the CD cover (I have the hard copy). Stick with the original releases. John is one of the few post-HankLefty artists who actually makes me think he talks like he sings, without affectation. His Long Black Veil rivals even Lefty's, which is saying a lot. And I can handle Swingin every now and then, too.

Beware!

I used up 30 tracks on this before it was linked to the allmusic.com review. These are re-recordings. They're fine recordings, but if you're looking for the originals, you'll have to go elsewhere.

Very good John Anderson

MusicalOmnivore

It is a later day re-recording of his classic stuff but its done well with good production and conviction. Those of us who love JA love him because of his amazing and totally distictive voice, not inspite of it. Solid stuff from a career legend.

Seminole Wind

My_Junk_Mail

This version of it is every bit as good as the original version, if not better.

Take a Breath, Man.

theoldprudesmusicreview

Very high production values here. Good music and good arrangements, but the man's voice drives me batty. Sounds like he's trying to catch his breath. Too bad. Give a listen. If you like his voice, you'll like the album (By the way, who cares if they are remakes? Some folks have to have something to whine about I guess.)

Alert

MPlott

Be forewarned - these are remakes, not the original recordings.

Excellent!!!!

If you are thinking about getting this set, do it. I highly recommend it. All the hits are here, my favorite track is "Peace In The Valley."

Audium’s John Anderson Anthology is a two disc set that should be avoided as it contains re-recordings of the country vocalist’s biggest hits. Fans of John Anderson should seek out Greatest Hits on Warner Bros. which contains the original hit versions of “I’m Just an Old Chunk of Coal,” “1959,” “Wild & Blue,” “Black Sheep,” and the huge country/pop crossover tune from 1982, “Swingin’.” – Al Campbell
