moments of genius

Spitshine

The ABC's and Adeline especially are great. the low-fi quality just adds to the timelessness of it - like an old charlie patton song that seems like it was written at the beginning of time. somewhere between a nursery school and a mental ward, this stuff is raw, warped and innocent. wish the dogs would go back to this. the new stuff is polished and has less bite.

Not main stream, but it gets under your skin

DelcoGreg

Most of this isn't the sort of stuff you like at first, or at all, but some songs really get under your skin. Start with Adeline, Mystery to Me, and Jealous Man. I have to admit that in the end I find a lot of the other songs annoying in that they seem like they have potential and I want to like them, but either there just isn't enough there in the first place or the 'gimmicks' (for lack of a better word) are just too over the top. Sometimes the off the wall stuff is what makes a song great, but I often find myself thinking that it is a shame they don't take a more straightforward approach with some of this stuff. Then again, I am 40 going on 50.
