Fun Flute CD
Christel Rice is a young but very talented Irish fluter. This album has mostly traditional dance tunes presented in a fast-paced, eclectic, energetic "rock star" style. While the playing is not maybe as polished as Matt Molloy nor as traditional as Michael Tubridy, for instance, it is just *fun* to listen to if you enjoy Irish music with a bit of spice. I found myself saying "That's not traditional" and not caring a whit. FOr those of you who have never listened to Irish flute music, forget anything you've ever heard about James Galway - he plays orchestral music on a very different instrument. THe Irish style is very rhythmic, aggressive, and punchy. It's a more "masculine" sound, if the term may be permitted. (Not to say there aren't a sh!teload of good Irish fluters who are women.)
