diverse and surprising
I purchased this album because I liked the artist's bass-playing on pianist Hiromi's album Spiral. This album is not just a showcase for Tony Grey's outstanding bass skills, but the other musicians also play prominent roles, with the keyboards, in particular, adding a lot of flavor. Some people might call it fusion, because its wide-range of energetic tunes has doses of funk, electronic, classical and Indian influences, but I prefer to consider it jazz without boundaries. Tracks 3, 5, 7 and 8 stand out when I listen to the album, but all tracks are good. Track 9 is not representative of the sound of the rest of the album, but provides a gentle and pleasant conclusion to a frenetic musical journey.
