I second that emotion

The Best Sloan album indeed. Sloan fans (guilty) tend to be a bit rabid in their love for all things Sloan but they are a remarkably consistent band. This is their high point. If you want to make a true Sloan believer of someone, make them listen to this. Preferably when the sun is shining and the windows are open

The Best Sloan Album

I just love this album. It's different compared to other Sloan albums, but in a good way. The Marquee and the Moon, and Beyond Me both are awesome songs.

Yes, you SHOULD dowload this record

I didn't think they could top the previous "Navy Blues" but they did. I agree with one other reviewer that the middle lags a little, but the first four and last four are just outstanding! I saw Sloan on this tour in Nashville and they just rocked the Exit/In! You gotta DOWNLOAD THIS RECORD!

Uh....wow!

Do they write even mildly not-great songs? Haven't heard one yet. Amazing record from an amazingly unheralded band.

My favorite Sloan album -- pure power pop goodness. Usually the first two tracks of a Sloan album are the best ones, but this one keeps going great all the way through.

A fine album

Attaboy

I find the middle of this album flags a bit, but it opens and closes with some real classic numbers. All in all, another good album from one of rock's under-appreciated bands. If nothing else, this album deserves acclaim for one of the finest rhyming couplets ever slung together: "If you think that it's cold when you're swimming in the ocean, it's hard to believe you're a Nova Scotian..."

GET THIS!!!

I was introduced to Sloan's music by a friend starting with this album and I was immediately hooked. Listen to the samples if you don't believe me. "Delivering Maybes" is awesome. "Losing California" should be a hit single. I can't say enough good stuff about this band. They're even awesome live. They need to be more than just a cult band. They deserve to be huge. Navy Blues is also a great record. And Action Pact. And Pretty Together. Just get 'em all.

Sloan managed to tinker with its signature sound — ’60s pop meets ’90s indie pop — while pleasing its current fans and gaining new ones. The band’s fifth studio album, Between the Bridges, is one of its best and most consistent — it’s Navy Blues with better production, higher-quality songs, and a polished (but definitely not slick) sound. Sloan returns to producer/engineer extraordinaire Brenndan McGuire, who produced Twice Removed and One Chord to Another, to illustrate how the band’s sound has improved and evolved since OCTA and even Navy Blues. The tighter arrangements and the band’s naturally engaging songwriting make Between the Bridges a standout in the band’s already impressive discography. This progression is most obvious on tracks like Andrew Scott’s blues-rock anthem “Sensory Deprivation,” Patrick Pentland’s rocking “Friendship,” Chris Murphy’s Television/Halifax club ode “The Marquee and the Moon,” and Jay Ferguson’s mellow and bouncy “Waiting for Slow Songs.” Sloan is making harder-edged, bluesier albums, but the guys still sound like a pop band: innovative, pure, and energetic. Scott’s tracks, in particular, have developed from simple Beatlesque numbers into astonishingly genuine, multi-layered pop songs. Between the Bridges sounds eclectic, energized, and cohesive, even if the individual artists don’t always stretch out their own compositions. Somehow the group gets better and better while still experimenting with new concepts and sounds, which is not something many bands do gracefully. – Gina Boldman
