Kaia Urb, the principal soprano from the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra joins with a fellow Estonian, guitarist Heiki Matlik, for this exquisite recording of songs by rarely heard composers like Alexander Varlamov, Piotr Petrovich Bulakhov and Alexander Dubuque as well as vastly more familiar names like Tchaikovsky and Glinka. Coupling Urb's rich and assured tone with Mätlik's delicate and understated accompaniment, this intimate recital is an unusual — and entirely welcome — pleasure.
