The New West ethic: a little bit country, a little bit rock & roll.
Label: New West Records

This cross-section of tracks from the New West roster is a good showcase for the label's strengths. A new track from Drive-By Truckers finds them adding a dark edge to their gritty sound, an eMusic exclusive from Old 97s shows off the group's country roots and Tim Easton's "Next To You" is gentle and stirring as a spring breeze. All in all, a great entryway to the fine music New West has to offer.

FOR FREE..ENOUGH HERE TO BE WORTH THE BROADBAND

dj1deck

Ok, you can't knock something that's free, and I'm no alt country hardcore fan. However it's a very pleasant 40 mins listen and The Drams track would please most people. Not all of it will be occupying hard disk in perpetuity but you won't feel it's a waste of ear time and broadband.

The Drams track is the only one I've added to my playlists. The other tracks are okay, but not that alt and not that country, just kinda okay. Listen to the clips and find the ones that are your taste, but the sampler is just kinda, "eh." Stephen Burton is kinda like a more articulate Hootie and the Blowwatchamacalit, if that helps...

I've tried....

ColtraneWasGod

And I just don't find one whit of originality or cleverness or even much skill here. I know there are sacred cows on this album, but I just can't hear anything other than the kinds of things I've heard over and over and over again for the last forty years. I am glad this was a free download, as it's the very first thing I've downloaded from eMu that won't reside on my hard drive for the long haul.

Free - whee!

A lot of nice-alt country...DBT, O97s as others have noted, but also hits from folks I hadn't heard of: Stephen Bruton, Randall Bramblett and a great uptempo number from the IV Thieves. Thanks New West (and eMusic)!

A Good Album

I really like this album. I have all of this talent...for FREE!!! I esp like Ben Lee and the way Kris Kristofferson shows how he's still around.

A quick note

CoolBreeze-NewWestRecords

Hi friends. Chris from New West Records here. Just want to note that the 'Download them all' button requires registration with Emusic and an installation of their download plugin. You can get every individual track for free if you download them separately, and you don't have to register at all (until April 1). Any questions? Hit me on the email, cb@newwestrecords.com
